Why are there so many attorneys answering questions on this during the day?

I have noticed that some of the questions are answered by people who add something like “24 years attorney” or “Texas attorney”, or they have some disclaimer, like “general discussion, not to be subsitutied for legal advice.”
I should add, I am one too.

A lot of posts ask for free legal advice, and despite our lousy reputation, here we are giving it. I do it mostly because it makes me feel good.
However, the world of lawsuits requires us to be careful. Since we don’t have the ability to ask questions and narrow issues, whatever we post here can only be generic in nature, and we have to protect ourselves from lawsuits. None of this can be seen as commencing an attorney-client relationship.
Maybe they call it “research” and are looking for billable hours! j/k I love lawyers…they are so smart and two of my brilliant grand kids are lawyers. And, no, I’m not biased (much).
It’s the lawyer’s equivalent of taking a break to play sudoku.
