Is it possible to do this in order to decrease tuition for my second and third years of law school?

Question by Mr. Lyon: Is it possible to do this in order to decrease tuition for my second and third years of law school?

I am planning on going to the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. I live in WV now, but my plan is to rent an apartment and move to Berkeley for the full year. My question is to this. With Berkeley being public and having different tuitions for residents and nonresidents of CA, would I be able to get my tuition decreased to residency status for my second and third year if I obtain residency within the first year?

Best answer:

Answer by Donald B
If you are over 24 you can establish residency on your own. If you are under 24 your residency is where your parents reside. But you cannot establish residency while going to school. So it you are over 24, you can move to California for a year to establish residency and then go all 3 years as a CA resident.

Bill Greehey School of Business Recognized Again for Providing Opportunities to Women

Bill Greehey School of Business Recognized Again for Providing Opportunities to Women

San Antonio, TX (Vocus) October 8, 2009

The Princeton Review has again ranked St. Mary’s University’s Bill Greehey School of Business and its M.B.A. program in the top 10 nationally for “Greatest Opportunity for Women” in the latest edition of its publication, The Best 301 Business Schools: 2010 Edition, which hit bookstores this week.

This is the third year in a row that the Bill Greehey School of Business has been recognized. This year the school has moved up two slots to number six; and, it is also the only school in the Southwest in this category.

The ranking is based on the percent of female students, the percent of faculty who are women, and results of the student assessments of a variety of factors including resources for female students and how supportive the culture is of female students.

“This honor is especially important to us as it comes when St. Mary’s M.B.A. program is celebrating its 50th anniversary,” said Bill Greehey School of Business Dean Tanuja Singh, Ph.D. “We strive to offer a rich academic environment where individualized experiences are designed to instill ethical leadership, technical excellence, global awareness and professional orientation in our graduates.”

St. Mary’s Bill Greehey School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Its unique, stand-out programs include a five-year combined Bachelor and Master of Business Administration program, a one-year accelerated M.B.A. program, a graduate and undergraduate study abroad program in Innsbruck, the Center for Global Business Studies, the Algur H. Meadows Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and the joint the J.D./M.B.A. degree program.

St. Mary’s School of Law was also featured in The Princeton Review’s other guide, The Best 172 Law Schools: 2010 Edition.

The Princeton Review does not rank the business or the law schools in the books on a single hierarchical list, or name one school as best overall. Instead, the book has 11 ranking lists of the top 10 business and law schools in various categories. Ten lists are based on The Princeton Review’s surveys of students attending the schools profiled in the book. The surveys were conducted during the 2008-2009, 2007-2008, and 2006-2007 academic years. For more information the lists are posted at http://www.PrincetonReview.com.

St. Mary’s University, as a Catholic Marianist University, fosters the formation of people in faith and educates leaders for the common good through community service, integrated liberal arts and professional education, and academic excellence. St. Mary’s University is ranked fourth in the West Region for quality and value in the “Great Schools, Great Prices” category of the U.S. News & World Report’s 2010 edition of “America’s Best Colleges.” To learn more about St. Mary’s, visit http://www.stmarytx.edu.

UC Berkeley law school?

Question by GL: UC Berkeley law school?

I am currently a college freshman and just want to get on track. I am thinking of majoring in History. I want to know what GPA to maintain and LSAT range. Or any other general advice

Best answer:

Answer by TheOrange Evil
Some schools heavily weight the LSAT, while other schools place more importance on GPA. UC Berkeley happens to be one law school that considers GPA to be more important than the LSAT.

UC Berkeley’s 75th percentile GPA is 3.89, meaning 25% of its students have GPAs over that. Its 75th percentile LSAT is 169. Its median GPA is 3.79 and its median LSAT is 166. To gain admission to UC Berkeley, you want to have both numbers at or above the median at the very least, especially your GPA. If you can hit the 75th percentile on both fronts, then you stand a much better chance. Top law schools get more competitive every single year. This year, for example, not many applicants have been getting in with LSATs as low as 169 without perfect or near-perfect GPAs. By the time you go to law school, I wouldn’t be surprised if you needed something around a 170 or higher on the LSAT.

Also, Berkeley likes a really good story. They reject people with good numbers all the time because they’re not interesting enough. While you’re in college, join a lot of clubs that you’re passionate about so that you have something to discuss in your personal statement. Win awards. Write a senior thesis. Do anything that’ll help you stand apart. They want you to jump off the page. It won’t be enough to have a 4.0 / 170 if you don’t have anything interesting to say in your application, unfortunately.

Major in a subject that’s going to get you a good GPA. Law schools don’t care about your major all that much. If you love history and think you can stay motivated to do well, then go for it. Best of luck to you.

PRINCETON INSURANCE EARNS ENDORSEMENT

OF NEW JERSEY ACCOUNTANTS

PRINCETON, N.J., August 18, 2000 — The New Jersey Association of Public Accountants (NJAPA) has endorsed Princeton Insurance as its preferred provider of professional liability coverage for its 700 members.

The endorsement by the NJAPA follows the launch of Princeton Insurance’s specialized coverage for public accountants and CPAs in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. With this product, Princeton becomes a major entrant among a small handful of insurers offering PA-specific programs in its marketplace.

“Professional liability specifically for accountants has been virtually non-existent in this area, so we’re pleased to be able to fill that void,” notes Paul Mathewson, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Princeton Insurance. “The endorsement by the NJAPA validates the need for accountants liability coverage.”

Princeton’s PA and CPA programs offer limits from $ 100,000 up to $ 2 million for professional liability, with multiple tiers in between. Premiums are highly competitive for both public accountants and certified public accountants, and Princeton offers a discount for new accountants. Deductibles are available.

“Princeton Insurance brings to the table a solid mix of field experience in professional liability, an outstanding track record in claims handling and an impressive degree of financial stability,” says Niles D. Breslau, executive director of the NJAPA. “We feel very confident recommending Princeton to our membership.”

Accountants are increasingly becoming targets of professional liability claims. According to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, more of these claims result from tax preparation than any other practice area. What’s more, with new tax laws introduced each year, the opportunities for omissions, errors and misinterpretations continue to rise. Other risk areas include bookkeeping, Eldercare (bill paying services for elderly clients), conflicts of interest and breaches of client confidentiality.

Princeton Insurance is part of the Princeton Insurance Companies corporate family. The companies are a leading specialty insurer with 50,000 policyholders in 15 states. Consumers, policyholders and agents can find additional information at the Princeton asy access Web site, http://www.princetoneasyaccess.com, or by calling 1-877-PI-EASY2 (743-2792).
