Duke Law Grads 2010 – Jeffrey William Glasgow

Duke Law Graduation / Commencements 2010

February 23, 2009 – Professor Jeffrey Fisher will talk about his work on Exxon v. Baker, a case that grew out of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, one of the most devastating environmental disasters in US history, and the implications of the US Supreme Court’s recent opinion for punitive damages law. Fisher will discuss some of the challenges of litigating a case concerning an event that occurred almost 20 years ago and 4000 miles away against the world’s most profitable corporation. Before the Ninth Circuit and US Supreme Court, Fisher represented the class of more than 32000 victims of the spill, including commercial fishermen, private landowners, and Alaska Natives; esteemed Duke Law Professor Walter Dellinger represented Exxon.

Question by lilsims28: How hard is law school and becoming a criminal lawyer?

I am a freshmen criminal justice major. I plan on going to law school after i finish my undergraduate. I have herd from numerous people that the hardest part is getting in, and the first year, but if you make it through the first year then most likely you will graduate. As for now I want to do criminal cases, but I don’t really know what other types of lawyers there are.

There will also be a law fair with over 90 law schools represented, as well as our signature event – The Law School Admissions Help Advice Clinic™ where law students and lawyers provide individualized advice and insight to law school hopefuls.

HOUSTON, TEXAS (PRWEB) October 22, 2005 — The First Annual National Black Pre-Law Admissions & Preparation Conference and Law Fair 2005 will be held on Friday, November 4, 2005 at The University of Houston in the University Center from 8:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M.    This groundbreaking event is made possible through a partnership between Persistence of Vision Productions and the University of Houston’s Eta Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., the National Association of Future Black Law Students and HBCUConnect.com.

The conference theme is “Empowering African American Law School Aspirants to Effectively Compete.” Our goal is to increase the chances of admission of prospective Black law students by emphasizing the importance of early strategic planning, understanding the highly competitive nature of the law school admissions process, and stressing the significance of academic preparedness and standing out from tough competition. Another component of this conference is to inform students about the academic rigors, demands and expectations of legal education, and to impart strategies to help them prepare for the challenging law school experience prior to actually beginning their law school careers. Additionally, we want to expose law school aspirants to Black attorneys who will share their real-life experiences with the practice of law and nontraditional paths. Furthermore, we want to give conference participants the opportunity to fellowship and network with others with similar higher education and professional goals in order to create positive support systems with other achievement-oriented peers, as well as connections with current law students and attorneys who can potentially help them in their quest to become lawyers.

Conference workshops and panel discussions will be held all day. Over thirty workshop panelists and presenters will participate in over twenty sessions featuring leading, community-minded law school administrative professionals, law students and attorneys from across the nation. There will be a mandatory break between 11:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. During this two-hour period, conference activities will pause and the law fair will take center stage. Prospective students interested in attending law school will have the opportunity to speak with law school representatives from over 90 law schools across the country. In the afternoon from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M., participants will have the chance to take part in our signature event – The Law School Admissions Help Advice Clinic™ where law students and attorneys will talk one-on-one with law school hopefuls about their personal admissions credentials and answer any questions they might have about getting into law school, choosing a law school and preparing for the law school experience.

There will also be other social and networking activities throughout the weekend. Opportunities to meet with pre-law students, law students and attorneys will be provided during a Friday Night Networking Social, the National Association of Future Black Law Students (NAFBLS) Day Membership Recruitment Drive, a NAFBLS Reception honoring outstanding organizational leaders and those individuals who have gone above and beyond to assist aspiring lawyers, as well as a Black Author/Lawyer Book Signing. Finally, the conference weekend will come to a close with a Sunday Brunch Fellowship. All of these social and networking events will take place at various popular venues throughout the Houston area.

This conference is a “can’t miss” event and to celebrate this occasion all Friday conference day activities are FREE of charge for all participants. A free continental breakfast will be provided. Special gifts will be given away to the first 200 people to sign-in or register at the conference. Further information, an on-line registration form and updates can be found at the official conference website at www.BlackPreLawConference.com.

Malibu, CA (PRWEB) August 19, 2008 — The number of applicants seeking admission to top law schools is on the rise, and until now, these applicants had few options for high-quality law school admissions consulting services. Recognizing this crucial absence of practical guidance in the application process, Veritas Prep, a leading GMAT prep and MBA admissions consulting provider, has launched an admissions consulting division solely dedicated to helping prospective students gain admission into top law schools.

Building on the success of its proven model in MBA admissions, Veritas Prep has created a unique law school admissions consulting service to provide aspiring law students with a personalized, strategic game plan for acceptance to the top law schools. Under the guidance of their admissions consultants, clients address each stage of the law school application and work to frame their candidacy in an effective manner.

Law school admissions consulting packages are tailored to fit a prospective student’s needs, from comprehensive consulting packages to hourly consulting sessions to specialized evaluation of specific parts of the law school application. How important is job history on a law school application?

Question by tennisball: How important is job history on a law school application?

I will be applying to law school next year and I am concerned about my lack of job experience. I’ve been working consistently since I was 16, but either in sales or in the childcare industry. Will these type of jobs badly affect my chances of getting into an excellent law school?

I attend a very prestigious school with a decent GPA and am an athlete as well as a board member of a large club.
Should I try to get a job in another field in order to boost my application? If so, what type of positions should I be looking for.

Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Uh huh, go on I’m listening
not at all. whats more important is volunteer work, donations, school activities/involvement etc.
I’d strongly suiggest some volunteer work (or a job) and be active in your school. Colleges love seeing applicants that are involved in their schools, doesn’t matter how, could be school paper, chorus, pep rallys etc… just be involved. they like seeing kids that are busy, and don’t have too much time on their hands for trouble or slacking.
