Colorado Congressman Jared Polis Subject of Political Cartoon After He Equates New Arizona Immigration Law to Those in Nazi Germany

Colorado Congressman Jared Polis Subject of Political Cartoon After He Equates New Arizona Immigration Law to Those in Nazi Germany

Latest D’OH-ans political cartoon focuses on Colorado Congressman Jared Polis

Denver, CO (Vocus) May 13, 2010

Colorado Congressman Jared Polis is the latest politician in the state to be lampooned by D’OH-ans, a homegrown conservative political cartoon that showcases leading “foot-in-the-mouth” political, media, sports and entertainment figures.

Congressman Polis was tagged for his remarks in late April that equated the new Arizona immigration laws to those in pre-Holocaust Nazi Germany. Polis, a first-term Congressman who is Jewish, decried the Arizona law, which requires police in the Grand Canyon state to ask those who they reasonably suspect may be illegal immigrants to produce identification papers.

“It is absolutely reminiscent of second class status of Jews in Germany prior to World War II when they had to have their papers with them at all times and were subject to routine inspections at the suspicion of being Jewish,” Congressman Polis told the online site, Politico.

Dean Rotbart, a conservative commentator for Examiner.com and co-creator of the D’OH-ans cartoon, called Congressman Polis’s analogy “absurd,” saying that it “defiles the memory and betrays the agony of those Jews who were persecuted at the hand of the Nazis.” The columnist’s father, Max Rotbart, survived internment at the Auschwitz concentration camp, although virtually all of Max’s family perished in the Holocaust.

In his Examiner.com column, Rotbart notes that unlike suspected illegal immigrants who may be stopped in Arizona, the Jews in Nazi Germany were harassed solely on the basis of religious discrimination. Jews in Germany were legal citizens, many of them having lived and worked in the country for generations.

Rotbart also quotes Abraham H. Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, who pointed out that the Nazis’ actions aimed at Jews were step one in the Nazis’ plan to force Jews into ghettos and ultimately deport them to extermination camps.

Rather than admit that he misspoke, Polis defended his analogy between illegal immigrants in Arizona and Jewish citizens in pre-Holocaust Germany, Rotbart said. “That earned the Congressman the right to be lampooned by D’OH-ans.”

Rotbart created the D’OH-ans cartoon along with veteran Colorado cartoon-caricaturist Frank Farrar, who draws each strip.

D’OH-ans cartoons carry the tagline: “Committed in the Centennial State.” The cartoons run regularly along with Rotbart’s Examiner.com columns.

Readers can receive all of Rotbart’s columns and D’OH-ans political cartoons for free by hitting the “subscribe” button available on any of his Examiner.com columns. Reprints of D’OH-ans cartoons are also available on a variety of campaign posters, banners and lawn signs. For more information contact Dennis at Repro Services in Denver, phone 303-937-7737.

‘Racist’ Bill Blocked: Arizona immigration law takes a hit

Parts of a controversial immigration law in the US state of Arizona which faced accusations of racism have been blocked by a federal judge. The new legislation had been designed to make illegal immigration a crime and penalize anyone helping undocumented workers, but judge Susan Bolton dropped the crime part and a requirement for immigrants to carry papers at all times. The state’s government has vowed to appeal the changes.

Steve Nash Wins but Phoenix Suns Lose

By: Cesar Mann
Posted: Mar 30, 2011

Steve Nash has usually been one particular of people many people who are properly recognised for talking their head. He has come via a large number of injuries and healthcare matters to keep on to play stellar stage guard for the Phoenix Suns. He has had other stars all over him but now the Suns have misplaced a great deal of expertise and Steve Nash does not have capability to win a championship himself, that would be unattainable.

Suns Shed to Lakers

In the recent game, Nash’s Suns have been pitted from Kobe Bryant’s Lakers. Steve Nash gave the Lakers a run for their cash but couldn’t win the game for the Suns. Nash is regarded as really a group player and is usually prepared to communicate up for the rights of his teammates and management.

Immigration lawyers will attest to the truth that the proposed Arizona immigration law has a number of detractors. In fact the state alone was practically boycotted by other states owing to this law but almost is not adequate, morality will usually win in the finish.

The Phoenix Suns had been a single of the to begin with groups to talk up in opposition to this law. Even amongst immigration attorneys in the state, the opinions have been diverse and divided with no crystal clear winner. The Phoenix Suns had been from the anti-illegal immigration bill but regardless of this they nonetheless just about defeat the Lakers in triple overtime.

Out of Touch

Under Steve Nash, they selected to display their derision toward the law and toward the immigration lawyers and others who supported the law by wearing jerseys titled Los Suns. This only showed how out of touch they had been with Phoenix citizens.

From Canada

“I suppose the law is very misguided. I believe it is unfortunately to the detriment of our society and our civil liberties and I consider it is very fundamental for us to stand up for points we think in,” Nash agreed with immigration lawyers who were against the bill. Nash is from Canada and does not appear to care about the plight of U.S. citizens that live along the southern border or tax payers across The united states.

“Arizona Immigration Law Will Ruin Republicans” – Judge Napolitano

Fox News has tried pretty hard over the last week to excuse the heated new Arizona law that many feel will lead to massive racial profiling. So I found it interesting that Fox’s own resident legal expert Judge Napolitano railed against the new law. Maybe Fox News should start listening to its own legal advisors.

Question by Do what now: Was it a bold move for Obama to lecture the state of Arizona, calling the new immigration law “misguided”?

Obama has a lot of brass. He kind of reminds me of a disgruntled boss, who’s’ employees made a wise decision without his consent.
Over 70% of Arizona’s populous thought the law was a good one. Seems like a pattern with this president is to go with the minority.

Workers and Employers? Voices Go Unheard in Debates over Arizona Immigration Law

Workers and Employers’ Voices Go Unheard in Debates over Arizona Immigration Law

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) July 20, 2010

Since Arizona’s newest immigration law was signed in April, the nation has been buzzing about border patrol issues, racial profiling and civil liberties, among other controversial topics thrust into the spotlight by Senate Bill 1070. But during the debates that have ensued, the voices of the state’s business owners and members of the workforce, those to be impacted most by the bill, have gotten lost in the thunderous outcry. Labor Law Talk (laborlawtalk.com), the largest online forum dedicated to labor law issues, is urging Arizona’s employers and employees to use the site as a platform to express their fears and concerns, ask questions, get answers and reclaim their voice in the debate over the year’s most controversial piece of legislation.

“S.B. 1070’s potential legal and economic affects on workers and employers in Arizona are being shadowed by the state’s previously imposed employer-sanctions,” said Ty Mays, a representative of Labor Law Talk. “The previous sanctions have been referred to as a ‘wink-and-nod’ system. The new law creates a stricter environment and raises new fears and concerns among both members of the state’s workforce and companies that rely on the existing workforce. It’s important that employees and employers have a place where these fears and concerns can be voiced and adequately addressed.”

Since the launch of Labor Law Talk, Arizona’s laws and employer-sanctions have been a hot button topic on the site. Managers, human resource professionals, business owners and employees have accessed the site to ask questions and offer information on a number of related topics, including E-Verify, the federal database Arizona employers are required to enroll in to check the legitimacy of an employer’s documents. As the debate over Arizona’s new immigration law continues to heat up and the July 29 vote approaches, Labor Law Talk hopes to serve as a sounding board for Arizona employers and employees to safely, and confidentially if necessary, voice concerns, ask questions and seek support.

“It’s been reported that many Latino families are fleeing the state rather than waiting to determine how S.B. 1070 will impact their future or the future of their jobs in the state of Arizona,” said Mays. “It’s our hope that more people, both workers and employers, will access Labor Law Talk and other available resources to get critical information and resources so that they can make informed, rational decisions rather than react hastily based on fear and panic.”

In addition to topics related to Arizona’s immigration law, employers and employees are encouraged to seek out information on other labor law topics. Since 2003, Arizona workers and employers have accessed Labor Law Talk to get information unemployment benefits, hiring guidelines, violence in the workplace, unlawful termination, payroll, layoffs, wage discrimination and more.

Border Governors ask for focus on US Immigration Reform

Border Governors ask for focus on US Immigration Reform

Recently, the U.S and Mexican border governors convened to discuss on the reform of U.S. immigration policies. During the meeting, Bill Richardson, the New Mexico governor, expressed his opinions stating that Congress cannot be expected to work on the US immigration reform until after the general election, which is to be held in November.

The border governors’ meeting was intended to be held in Phoenix previously, which was then cancelled by Jan Brewer, Arizona governor. The event was cancelled due to the Mexican governors’ planned boycott over the controversial Arizona immigration law. Seven governors participated in the border governors meeting of which Richardson was the only governor from the United States, while the other governors were from six different Mexican states.

The border governors issued a joint statement on the U.S. immigration policies. They stated that the basic premise of respecting the rights and dignity of individuals calls for a complete immigration reform. They also mentioned that there is no coordination or exchange of information between the U.S. and Mexican federal governments and they convened to improvise the border crossings.

Richard expressed hope that Congress would lay the foundation for the US immigration reform after the November general election. He further added that the much required immigration reform will hopefully top the priorities of Congress in the coming year.

Richardson mentioned at a press conference that the US immigration reform should be an over-all effort and not restricted to the partisans. He also stated that the immigration reform should have a tougher impact on those companies who brought illegal immigrants into the United States to work for them. He ended saying, those illegal immigrants who learn or know English and pay the back taxes properly should be legalized through the new U.S. immigration policies.

Immigrants looking for assistance in the preparation of visa applications, can rely on USA-Green-Card to help them through the process.
