Guns in Berkeley High School

BERKELEY, Calif. — Berkeley Police arrested three local high school students Tuesday for crimes related to gun possession on campus, making March the third month in a row to have had a gun-related arrest at Berkeley High School. Two students were arrested after a gun they brought to the school went off in a bathroom, and the third was arrested a short time later for having an unloaded handgun, Berkeley Unified spokesman Mark Coplan said. The school was temporarily put on lockdown while officials responded to the incidents, which started at about 8:45 am when a custodian heard what sounded like a gunshot on the southeast side of campus, Coplan said. The custodian saw two students walking out of a bathroom near some portable classrooms before leaving the campus, so he told a safety officer on the street that he thought the students had been involved with the gunshot. The safety officer ran after the students while he radioed the safety team and the Berkeley Police Department, Coplan said. The rest of the safety team did an initial campus closure, which involved putting an administrator or a safety officer at each entrance. The suspects circled around the campus and tried to enter from the other side, but the safety team knew who they were looking for, Coplan said. The students were apprehended when they tried to re-enter the school grounds, and they were handed over to Berkeley police. The suspects were interviewed extensively and denied any involvement in the gun’s going

UC Berkeley law school?

Question by GL: UC Berkeley law school?

I am currently a college freshman and just want to get on track. I am thinking of majoring in History. I want to know what GPA to maintain and LSAT range. Or any other general advice

Best answer:

Answer by TheOrange Evil
Some schools heavily weight the LSAT, while other schools place more importance on GPA. UC Berkeley happens to be one law school that considers GPA to be more important than the LSAT.

UC Berkeley’s 75th percentile GPA is 3.89, meaning 25% of its students have GPAs over that. Its 75th percentile LSAT is 169. Its median GPA is 3.79 and its median LSAT is 166. To gain admission to UC Berkeley, you want to have both numbers at or above the median at the very least, especially your GPA. If you can hit the 75th percentile on both fronts, then you stand a much better chance. Top law schools get more competitive every single year. This year, for example, not many applicants have been getting in with LSATs as low as 169 without perfect or near-perfect GPAs. By the time you go to law school, I wouldn’t be surprised if you needed something around a 170 or higher on the LSAT.

Also, Berkeley likes a really good story. They reject people with good numbers all the time because they’re not interesting enough. While you’re in college, join a lot of clubs that you’re passionate about so that you have something to discuss in your personal statement. Win awards. Write a senior thesis. Do anything that’ll help you stand apart. They want you to jump off the page. It won’t be enough to have a 4.0 / 170 if you don’t have anything interesting to say in your application, unfortunately.

Major in a subject that’s going to get you a good GPA. Law schools don’t care about your major all that much. If you love history and think you can stay motivated to do well, then go for it. Best of luck to you.

What is a good major choice for getting in UCLA Law,UC Berkeley Law?

Question by James: What is a good major choice for getting in UCLA Law,UC Berkeley Law?

What is the best major choice?

I am extremely intrested in Criminal Justice, but I keep getting told by people that most law schools look down upon CJ majors…is this really true?

My mom…who double majored in Poli Sci and English told me that I should major in Poli Sci if I want to get into a law school like any of the UCs….she had a 3.98gpa..and 179LSAT…so I trust her judgement

So is Poli Sci really a better choice then CJ or any other degree choice?

I was told the top 5 major choices that law schools love is

1. Poli Sci
2. History
3. English
4. Economics
5. Statistics

and that most law schools hate people with fine arts degrees such as dance, music, theatre, and etc

so is CJ a good degree choice or not?…does criminal justice help develop your critical thinking, reasoning, and analyitical skills?

Best answer:

Answer by happy.
i think Poli Sci is a good choice as well as economics.

Berkeley Palmer Sees Green Jobs Growth for Those With the Right Skills

Berkeley Palmer Sees Green Jobs Growth for Those With the Right Skills

Overland Park, KS (PRWEB) August 25, 2008

Green jobs are on the rise now and the trend is just getting started. According to Berkeley Palmer of Overland Park Kansas Green Jobs have the potential of trending up at a faster pace than any other job sector.

Berkeley Palmer says that virtually every current major industry has potential for creating new jobs within their own communities that never existed before. Construction, transportation, manufacturing, mining, agriculture, the emerging alternative fuels industries and many other industry sectors will be seeking professionals with a set of “Green Skills.” Everything from reducing pollution and creating more environmentally friendly business practices to emerging state and federal compliance of existing and soon to be created laws will help to create many new professional career options for those who get the right training and/or education now.

Berkeley Palmer says that the term “Green Skills” is widely used, but not well defined just yet. In a recent article from the Australian News: Pierre Malou, manager, environment and sustainability at Drake Executive (an Australian firm), says green skills — or green collar — careers in laymen’s terms are “the skills that help businesses fund, plan and manage everything to do with helping the company meet corporate or social responsibility around climate change”. So far that seems to be the best general description of what green skills are.

Berkeley Palmer research shows that green skills training is currently on the rise via special industry specific programs, such as the training provided by the Green Builders Council of DC, a coalition of builders and developers who are unveiling the nation’s first green collar job training curriculum for the Washington D.C area construction industry.

According to the spokesperson for Berkeley Palmer, those who are seeking to expand their skills base should stay within their current industry and get the industry specific training and education for the green skills they will need. When asked why not go to new industries the Berkeley Palmer spokesperson said, “When a job seeker is looking to make a career change they sometimes face an uphill battle. Attempting to change both function and industry at the same time creates an added degree of difficulty. The best way to make a change in both areas, it would be best to do that in a two or three step process, rather than attempt one big (and overwhelming) step.”

Berkeley Palmer is a well respected career firm with offices in Overland Park, KS a suburb of Kansas City with affiliated offices nationwide. You can find Berkeley Palmer at http://www.bpkansas.com.

Berkeley, CA (PRWEB) June 19, 2008

More than 900 Special Olympic athletes vied for Northern California Championship titles June 7-8 during the 13th annual Summer Games at The University of California, Berkeley. For complete results, go to http://www.sonc.org/summergames

The Summer Games is the largest Special Olympics event held in Northern California each year, with more than 3,000 in attendance. All athletes returned home winners after a weekend of intense competition, fun and a chance to experience a little college life at The University of California, Berkeley. Traveling from 32 counties in Northern California, athletes had to qualify in regional competitions before being selected to represent their delegation at the Summer Games.

“The athletes are amazing, said Jenny Choo, directors of Summer Games for Special Olympics Northern California. “Everyone competed well, there were lots of smiling faces, and everything went smoothly in large part because of our many volunteers and the UC staff.”

The Games officially kicked off Friday night with an Opening Ceremony presented by AT&T that featured Country Vocalist Superstar Collin Raye, performing artist David Garibaldi, a parade of athletes, and a visit from Cal’s new men’s basketball coach Mike Montgomery.

Special Olympics athlete Titor Sandee from San Francisco had the honor of being the final torch bearer and lighting the caldron, as the games were declared “officially open” by John Panagakis who retired this year from 30-plus years of service as a Special Olympics coach and volunteer

Another highlight of the evening was the culmination of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. More than 500 law enforcement personnel ran the torch 738 miles in Northern California to its destination at UC Berkeley. They presented a check in the amount of $ 875,000 to Special Olympics Northern California CEO Rick Collett.
