Johnny Mnemonic
Johnny Mnemonic
Man with computer-chip brain. You might be tempted to call it “Johnny Moronic” after you’ve seen this illogical and derivative adaptation of William Gibson’s cyberpunk short story (available in his book Burning Chrome), which is all the more depressing since Gibson himself wrote the screenplay. First you have to ask yourself why valuable top-secret electronic data would be stored in the “wet-wired” brain of a human courier (played by Keanu Reeves), who then transports the data from China to New J

Johnny Mnemonic – Deleted Scenes
Scenes from the Japanese release of the movie Johnny Mnemonic. Aside from changing the soundtrack around quite a bit, several additional scenes and several re-edited scenes were present in the Japanese release of Johnny Mnemonic (referred to as JM in Japan). I have edited together a little montage of these scenes. The parts spoken in Japanese had no subtitles (since this was a Japanese DVD) so I did my best to fill them in based off of a copy of the original script. Though the subtitles are not exactly right, they are a “best fit” from what is on the screen and what is on the page. Hopefully no one will take offense to me posting this footage. The only way you can get ahold of it is to import the (extremely expensive) DVD from Japan. cyberpunk.thegentlemanloser.com

A variety of stories – from the discovery of bog people like Tollund Man to peoples compulsion to retrace the origins of their ancestors – collide and form a piece of theatre which questions our concept of time, our capacity to distort history a
